Painful snacks

You have to wonder how they brainstormed the idea for the name of this product. Maybe someone got frustrated, kicked someone else in the groin, and an idea was born.

Summer?

As usual, I only slept about 2 hours on the flight down to New Zealand. However, with a bit of help from Red Bull, I was able to stay up until 9:30. Since we're in the southern hemisphere, it is late spring/early summer here. As is typical of Wellington, it's 64 degrees, rainy, and windy. I think the only varible factor in the weather here is the temperature. It seems to always be windy and rainy.

My flight over was a fantastic combination of screaming baby in front, kids yelling behind, with the kid kicking the back of my seat mixed in for good measure. It's unbelievable how unattentive some parents are. Despite the glares from myself and the guy sitting next to me, the parents behind us seemed to have no idea that their kids were yelling at the top of thier lungs while everyone else was trying to sleep. Once in Wellington, I was able to cheer myself up with some fantastic French Toast at the CD Shop Cafe and a walk around town. It is amazing how many shoe stores this city has. It seems that one in every three shops sells shoes of some sort. Even more strange is that 75% of those stores sell the same looking women's shoes. I'm not sure how they all stay in business, but I'm fairly confident that the women of Wellington will not have to go barefoot anytime soon.

On the sporting front, New Zealand whipped France in Rugby and got killed in Cricket by Australia yesterday. The Broncos/Raiders game is actually on TV here today (although at 2:30 in the afternoon), so I'm hoping to see some of that on the TV in the lunch room. Also, conratulations to the Buffs who go to their third Big XII Championship game in the last 4 years. Although I'm pretty sure we're going to get killed by Oklahoma, you can't win if you don't play so maybe we'll get lucky.

Buffs and Huskers

I wrote the preview for the game over at buffs.tv. It's short as I'm having a hard time getting excited about this team. Anyway, I think we'll win. Go Buffs.

The Incredibles

Deanna and I went to see The Incredibles yesterday. We hadn't been to an actual movie theater in awhile (Bourne Supremacy, I believe) so it was fun to do that whole thing again. We saw the film on the giant screen at the Continental. I really enjoy seeing movies there and it's nice to be so much closer to it. Anyway, a few thoughts:
  1. The movie was very well written and well done. The story keeps your attention throughout and there's plenty of action. While some parts may be a bit scary for the younger ones, Pixar has once again created a movie that will entertain both adults and kids.
  2. I was reminded of how huge the large popcorn is. Also, why is it that if I just looked at the price of the large, I would be mad about how they're gauging me out of my hard earned money. However, if I start by looking at the price of the medium, I justify buying the large because it's "only 75 cents more". It's good to know that I'm still insane.
  3. Pixar did a nice job of rendering the human characters to look mostly cartoonish. I always thought that the humans in Toy Story looked odd and I'm not sure I could have handled an entire movie with the "realistic" looking humans.
  4. They showed the preview for Star Wars Episode III before the movie. It looks like it could be pretty cool. I'm not sure why I'm still hopeful after the letdowns from I and II, but maybe they'll get it right for this one. Also, Son of the Mask looks like it may be the worst movie ever made.

Overall, an enjoyable experience. I'd rank this one behind Toy Story, but ahead of both Toy Story 2, Finding Nemo, and A Bug's Life (I think that's all of them).

In Demand

Money magazine has released its list of the top 10 "in demand" college degrees. Once I finish my MBA, I'll have three of ten. I'm just going to sit back and let the money come to me. Waiting.......

Still waiting.....

Addiction

Check out this crazy little game from Japan. You drag the items onto the ball and watch them grow. Order is important as there is one solution to maxing out all pieces. The music is great too. Enjoy GROW.

Turning 1

So little Brenna turned one last month and is growing more independant by the day. Despite not having a nap, she was able to plow through the cake and presents like a champ. Here she is with her favorite Aunt and Uncle. Happy Birthday B.

Getting Started

I'm jumping into this whole blog thing (I know, I'm way behind). I'm not sure what will be here or if I'll even keep it up, but I'll give it a shot.
